How I managed to resist speaking my mind in a written format for over thirty years; why I've ceased to resist; why you should care.

I think it was a Russian saying that goes something along the lines of; "Those who fight and fuck don't (like to?) speak of fights and whores.".

I've had some fortune with the teachers in my life. A shared quality all the good ones have is a modesty that goes deeper than virtue for its own sake. It was a natural-feeling, boasting-free quality to their demeanor and speech that stood out to me only after I've spent much time around hot air balloon types. The physically strongest person I've met looked and carried himself like an ordinary guy, because he was. He did his physically demanding job and endeavoured to do more and get less tired doing it. His power served him, not vice versa. Didn't brag. The most proficient aikidoka I've met would happily answer questions and share his thoughts, but would do so matter-of-factly. Never came close to giving off a hint of a boasting tone. Same with those who excelled in virtually any field or line of work I engrossed myself in.

Those who fight and fuck don't speak of fights and whores.

I've noticed this pattern early on.

I've since tried my darndest to emulate it. Could it be that I've cherrypicked the modest, introverted achievers to aspire to over the outspoken, prideful ones? It may well be. But, this is then a quality that I find crucial to the "master of something" package and if you disagree, good for you. I disagree with myself sometimes, but only when I'm wrong. Years passed and I accumulated experience. I feel less full of myself when I share knowledge these days. I conclude I've either become more full of myself with time; or I've matured and gained confidence through the feedback loop for everything I know. I can't be the judge of that. Hence this blog. The idea is to share my training and thinking and meeting colorful people experiences here and in so doing, run them through an additional feedback loop. That is, if anyone actually ends up reading this. And commenting in some manner. This includes myself. I'm into Yoga and really any system and way of self-betterment(deconstruction) I can find and do more with it than read about it. I'm into martial arts, mainly Aikido and all the internal ones I can expose myself to. For their original purpose to be sure, but in equal measure for the aesthetic dimension in them as well. Lartmartialpourlartmartialism being a really shitty name for a blog, through a particularly convoluted stream of consciousness I've come up with the ACAI acronym. L'art martial pour l'... wait what? Apparently chicks dig a good acronym. Chicks dig acai berries and everything that goes with them too. Maybe. I think? I never had one, though apparently they're awesome. The berries, not chicks. Anyway, I shall write about Aikido and the Arts Internal. Consciousness, Cultivation and Cats were close contenders for the C in the title. Consciousness won because I like the word. Expect writings on all of these. Yes, even cats. Cats are a neverending source of study for me. They do martial arts, movement, meditation and just being really cool; and they do these things better than any species on the planet while also being simultaneously nonchalant and incredibly majestic about them. We can all take some hints from cats. If you don't worsh..like cats you are going to have a bad time here. Thanks for making it this far, hope you will find this blog worth it again. Until next time.
